More Good Doggoes

Hello friends!

As I mentioned in my previous post, my partner Joy is very much a dog person.  In her life she’s owned several pure-bred huskies, and we occasionally talk about getting a husky puppy when I retire in a few years, though there are all sorts of pros and cons there.

Joy is not much of a wargames person, but she does appreciate a crossover angle, like my friend Jame’s goblin wolf riders in my last post.

I don’t remember how, but I came across a crazy Kickstarter project called Dungeons and Doggies.  The idea is that various breeds of dogs decide to become D&D characters and set off, appropriately acquired, for the local dungeon.   How that is any more ridiculous than, say, a giant floating eyeball?

How do they draw their swords?  They don’t have thumbs!!!!?????

The KS project does include a paladin husky dog wearing armour, which painted would make a lovely gift for herself.    Lord knows what I’ll do with the rest of them, but I know enough doglovers that individual figures will make nice gifts.  I am a bit leery of Kickstarter projects generally, but this one is fully funded and then some, so hopefully it will deliver.

Blessings to your doggos!

Or, were you speaking of the dogs?

    1. Oh dear. The site says they are "corgos" but I think it means corgis! Annie sure has a lot of peculiar animals for sale.

    2. That might be Annie's peculiar way of referring to them. Vallhunds are the Swedish versions of corgis - like them, they're cattle herders https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_Vallhund

  4. My doggo has far too easy a life to go exploring dungeons!

    1. LOL. My doggo is a 14 year old terrier/husky mix who is lovely but who gets tired after 20 minutes at the off leash park, so no dungeon exploring for her either!

  5. I like her even more with every post!

Anyway, back in the day when we had several (huge) Irish Wolfhounds as well our pack of (tiny) Italian Greyhounds (aka Iggies) I used to refer to them as the Heavy Brigade and the Light Brigade. But as for drawing swords, well I am sometimes amazed what they can grab and manipulate with teeth and paws.

    1. Thanks Ross!
A friend of mine has Irish Wolfhounds - they are dogs for serious dog owners, not for the faint of heart.

  6. They're all good doggoes! A husky would be a good retirement project.

    1. It will be a balance between devoting time to a puppy and our desire to do some serious travelling, but for certain a husky would keep me active!

  7. Both Beth and Katie have ordered the D&D doggies. I'm waiting to see them.

  9. Huskies can be a bit of a handful. Very much outdoor dogs, and you need to be the Alpha or they'll walk all over you. A friend has a Husky and something cross. I've always thought an Alsatian/German Shepherd would be a good family dog.

    1. No doubt. I am trusting Joy's previous experience as a two time husky owner. We know some groups that rescue dogs from the Canadian North and bring them south for adoption, there are often husky mixes that would also be an option for us.

  10. Charming sculpts!

Might be interested in looking up Oathsworn Miniatures "Badgers and Burrows" minis range. Am rather partial to their sculpts (And the setting for them and their skirmish rules are a hoot too!) and they also have some nice Dog characters that could interest Joy.
