No pretty minis to show tonight, but a little DIY success to brag on. Back in August I reported on an upgrade to the lighting in the wargames room of my (newish) home. Last night I replaced the last of four defective ballast units that prevented me from using all those wonderful fluorescent fixtures. I got a quote from an electrician to replace all the ballasts at $100 a pop. No thanks, I thought. I can buy new ballasts at $30 each.
Here’s the last new ballast, all wired in (said he hopefully).
Then to put the covering plate (a fun job trying to hold it in place with one hand while screwing the ends in with the other), throw the breaker back on (no spitzensparken, good), put the new fluorescent bulbs in, and .. IT”S ALIVE!!!
And here’s the wargames table, under full illumination. Nice!
Now to get a game going on that table.
Blessings to your brushes and die rolls!

Excellent result! A game room needs good lighting.
ReplyDeleteWell done Padre. Get a game going on that table.
ReplyDeleteCheers, PD
Light makes such a difference in a war games room well done. I hope you enjoy using it.
ReplyDeleteGood job ;-)
ReplyDeleteLet there be LIGHT!
ReplyDeleteOf course, one of the sordid pleasures of sneaking a peak at another man's wargames room is having a nose around the shelves. What is that intriguing looking thing on the top shelf? In front of the books.
That object on the top shelf is a plastic model of a 17th century "Pirate Pistol". I bought it for a Pirate themed Mess event some years ago and of course had to paint it so it looked realistic. Pace PatG, it has no anti-zombie utility, sadly. Somewhere in that room, however, is a working WW2 era.303 SMLE that might stop a few zeds.
DeleteHow many Mad Padres does it take to change a lightbulb?
ReplyDeleteOnly one, but the lightbulb has to want to be changed?

game time!
ReplyDeleteMan card validated.
ReplyDeleteNow quit standing around admiring your handiwork and get a game going!
Having changed more than a few myself, well done Padre.
ReplyDeleteAs for the item on the shelf - my bet is on an Aspergillum, likely spiked for anti-zombie work.
You do realise you just threw away the best excuse for any bad pictures taken on that table? We will now expect everything to be crystal clear and vivid.
ReplyDeleteJuaaa Juaaa! XD
DeleteI have noticed that the fluorescent does make things look a little funky on my iPhone camera.
DeleteYou are doomed Mike... now you'll be the handy man at home
ReplyDeleteWell done mate. Chaplain, hobbyist AND electrician.
ReplyDeleteYes sir that table looks a bit bare. Best throw some figures on and roll some dice! :) Outstanding work on the light situation!
ReplyDeleteThank you all. Any votes as to what game I should lay out? You have till midnight EST to cast your vote.
ReplyDeleteThere must be a number of freshly painted ACW troops who have not yet seen the elephant, right? Better see to that.
DeleteLate to the vote, but I second Thomas's idea.
