It's .... Crash Callahan!

R

Racing down a gravel road, her trusty dog Fred in the sidecar of her roaring Indian, it’s Crash Callahan, intrepid girl reporter / secret agent / daredevil / archaeologist - take your pick.

As readers of this blog know, I’m a sucker for fellow Canadian Bob Murch’s line of Pulp Figures, and while I couldn’t see an immediate use for it in my gaming, I thought it would be an ideal present for my lovely bride and dog lover, Joy, who still struggles to understand the art form of miniature figures.  And who can resist a dog in a sidecar with goggles and his tongue hanging out?

The set also comes with dismounted figures of Crash and Fred - nice touch.  Her blue jeans are done with Citadel contrast paint which I have only begun to use.  I thought it was a bit garish when it dried, but the matte spray varnish toned it down a bit.  I think I like it.

Thanks for looking.  Blessings to your brushes!

  1. The dog in sidecar is a terrific piece! Did Joy enjoy your gift?
Bob has a talent that is not reproducible, I think. His works I can spot almost instantly.

    1. Thanks Jonathan:
I agree totally about Murch's unique style. It's hard to describe it without sounding negative, but there is something a little primitive about his sculpts, a lack of fine detail that one finds with other sculptors (the Perrys come to mind), and something a little odd in the body proportions, but they are alltogether delightful. Like the Dixon ACW figures, they are completely their own thing. I have a LOT of Murch's lead and I'm a huge fan.
Yes, the figures are now sitting on Joy's computer desk. :)

    1. Thank you milord Duke. Not sure about that, but she did agree to play Avalon Hill's Civilization with me once, so there's hope.

  5. Seems there's a trend of new brides not understanding our hobby as my own finds my appreciation for small plastic and metal figures to be quite incomprehensible. LOL

Crash is a lovely set of sculpts and your painting has done her and the pooch nicely. Good stuff Mike, I hope the missus likes her gift!

    1. Thanks mate. As long as they treat us with fond indulgence, I think we're good.
Did you find someone new? So happy if so! Tell me more!

  6. It's not just new brides. We hit 25 in a couple of months and my wife regards my hobby with bemused toleration. She does not understand why it is important to me, just that it is.

  7. You're a lucky man to be receiving bemused toleration after 25 years. You must be doing something right!
